History of the Spanish Language
Description:This line of research explores the Spanish Language as a system that is constituted by change and survives thanks to change. The transformation process is analysed from archival documentation from all historical epochs. It must be stressed that both onomastics and toponymy are considered sources of documentation.

Study of the Relationship among Language, Critical Thinking, Culture and Society
Description: This line of research is aimed at determining the impact that the social and cultural traits of Spanish-speaking communities have on the structure and use of the Spanish language, and viceversa. It also explores the mutually dependent relationship between language and critical thinking.

Teaching of Spanish as a Foreign Language and as a Second Language
Description: This line of research aims to (1) broaden our knowledge about the process of acquisition of the Spanish language and Hispanic culture in a teaching-learning context of foreign languages or second languages, including the teaching to immigrants; (2) analyse the intercultural relationships in this context and (3) construct didactic strategies.

Lesbian, Gay, Trans and Queer Studies
Description: This line of research is aimed at examining the cultural representation of “sexual minorities” in Spain and Spanish America throughout the centuries. The objective is to link the areas of political changes with historical evolution and artistic/literary productions in order to assess whether cultural representations can be fully valued as mirrors of social and political changes.
